About our Cheer Program
Get ready to be part of something exciting! WAGS is thrilled to launch our All Star Cheerleading program, bringing high-energy, action-packed fun to the club for athletes of all levels. Whether you're new to the sport or looking to take your skills to the next level, our program is designed to help you shine—both on and off the floor!
What is All Star Cheerleading?
All Star Cheerleading is a competitive sport that combines high-flying stunts, precision tumbling, dynamic jumps, and sharp dance routines. It’s a team-based sport that involves athletes of all genders, working together to perform a 2-minute, 30-second routine that showcases their strength, agility, and teamwork.
Unlike traditional cheerleading where teams cheer for others, All Star Cheerleaders ARE the team—taking centre stage in thrilling competitions across the region and beyond. With opportunities to compete in various categories like CheerDANCE, Duos, Singles, and more, there’s a place for everyone in this electrifying sport!
The Program
At WAGS, we focus on building athletes' skills and confidence in a supportive environment. Whether you're mastering your first stunt or perfecting a high-flying pyramid, our program is designed to help you progress through each level. Our experienced coaches will guide you every step of the way, ensuring you're prepared for both individual and team performances at local and national competitions.
- Skill Development: You'll learn the essential stunts, tumbling techniques, jumps, and dance moves needed to excel in cheerleading.
- Teamwork: Every member plays a crucial role, and no matter your skill level, you'll be part of a collaborative, high-energy team.
- Competitions: Our cheerleaders compete in All Star Cheerleading competitions, giving you the chance to showcase your talents and compete at a high level. These events are full of excitement, and WAGS athletes have a reputation for delivering spectacular performances! They are generally based in Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga.
What to Expect
- Commitment: Cheerleading requires dedication, but the rewards are incredible! Expect to train hard, improve your skills, and make lifelong friendships along the way.
- What to Wear: You’ll need comfortable athletic wear—think fitted tank tops, shorts, or leggings, and supportive cheer shoes. As you progress, our team uniforms will be introduced for competitions!
- Training Schedule: Practices are held regularly, and we’ll send out a training schedule once you join. Be prepared for a two hour, twice a week team practice sessions to perfect your routine.
- Competitive Opportunities: Throughout the year, we’ll participate in various All Star Cheerleading competitions. Also, end of year displays and any other opportunities the team gets to perform in front of an audience.
Meet the Coaches!
Kyla – Head Coach

Kia ora! My name is Kyla, and I am the Head Coach at WAGS Cheerleading. I grew up in artistic gymnastics before moving into competitive cheerleading, where I competed for six years and had the opportunity to travel all over the world. My biggest takeaway from cheerleading was the confidence it gave me—a quality I now love helping our athletes develop.
Alongside cheerleading, I am also a CrossFit coach and a qualified personal trainer. Staying active and traveling are two of my passions, but Whangārei will always be home. I’m committed to supporting young people to build resilience, confidence, and lifelong friendships through competitive cheerleading. See you in the gym!
